Academy Chairs

As proud inheritors of a rich culinary past, we are conscious that as its custodians we must respect those traditions as the foundations of our art, on which we must build for a better future. As for emulating our predecessors, this could not be done better than by pausing for a moment to honour their memory and extend to them the lasting homage which is their due. Let us remember our forerunners and mentors whose contribution was to leave us the sum total of their knowledge, without which our profession would not be what it is today.

In such a way the Academy of Culinary Arts in Britain has endorsed its belief in the culinary art by establishing the ceremonial presentation of chairs, as a mark of respect to these men and women. These ceremonies, known as investitures, take place once a year following the Annual General Meeting, when six Academicians (who become eligible according to the length of their membership) deliver an appraisal of their mentor and subsequently become known as an Academician Mentor.
