mutton Renaissance

Launched in 2004 with a call from our Royal Patron, His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales to restore mutton to our menus, the Mutton Renaissance has become a fundamental part of the Academy’s agenda. Its aim was to re-establish mutton as an important niche market meat to ensure better prospects for the sheep industry. This was particularly significant in the wake of the 2001 Foot & Mouth disaster and remains relevant today.

The Mutton Renaissance is run jointly by the ACA in and the National Sheep Association (NSA) and generously sponsored by the English Beef and Lamb Executive (EBLEX) and Hybu Cig Cymru / Meat Promotion Wales (HCC).

Mutton Renaissance Club
In February 2006 the campaign launched the Mutton Renaissance Club with the aim of linking the supply chain from farmer to chef. The club provides a forum for members to share information, ideas and expertise by hosting periodic Open Events around the country. These events range from farm and abattoir visits to butchery and cookery demonstrations.

For information about how to join the Mutton Renaissance Club please contact Julie Jennings at the National Sheep Association Tel: 01684 892661.
